Duty of Candour
At The Aesthetics Nurse Clinic, we are committed to providing safe, effective, person-centred care and maintaining an open and transparent relationship with our patients.
As a registered independent healthcare provider in Scotland, we recognise and comply with our responsibilities under the Organisational Duty of Candour.
What is Duty of Candour?
The Duty of Candour is a legal requirement for health and care organisations in Scotland. It requires healthcare providers to be open and honest when an unintended or unexpected incident occurs during a patient’s care or treatment that has resulted in, or could result in, harm or death.
Where the Duty of Candour procedure applies, The Aesthetics Nurse Clinic will:
- Inform the patient, or their representative where appropriate, about what has happened.
- Provide a sincere apology.
- Provide a clear and understandable account of the incident.
- Offer the opportunity to ask questions and discuss any concerns.
- Carry out an appropriate review of what happened.
- Provide information and support to those affected.
- Identify any learning or improvements required to help reduce the risk of a similar incident occurring again.
- Keep appropriate records and comply with our statutory reporting responsibilities.
Why is Duty of Candour Important?
Being open and honest when something goes wrong is fundamental to maintaining trust between patients and healthcare professionals.
Duty of Candour supports a culture of transparency, accountability, learning and continuous improvement, helping us maintain high standards of patient safety and care.
Our Commitment
At The Aesthetics Nurse Clinic, patient safety is at the centre of our practice.
Should an incident occur that meets the criteria for the Organisational Duty of Candour, we will follow the required procedure, communicate openly with those affected and ensure that appropriate learning and improvements are identified and implemented.
We also review and report on our Duty of Candour responsibilities in accordance with the requirements for independent healthcare providers in Scotland.
